Monadic testing is a term commonly used in the research world. But what is it exactly? Here are some quick points to get you caught up!
What is Monadic testing? Testing many concepts but respondent reviews only one randomly assigned concept.
When/why would I use this? 👇
You have more than 1 concept to test
Minimizes bias
Less strain on respondent
Keep in mind, this method requires a larger sample. You’d ideally like a minimum of 75-100 respondents per concept
What is Sequential Monadic? Testing many concepts where respondent reviews all (or a majority) of the concepts in random order.
When/why would I use this method over the other? What are key points to consider when choosing? 👇
Better for projects with constraints (time, budget or smaller populations).
Generally considered “less pure” than monadic testing, but still reliable.
Respondents reviewing multiple concepts means your research dollars will go further. So, which is better for my project?
Great question. And like most great questions, the answer depends! Budget, timing, number of concepts/similarity of concept themes and size of population all come into play.
